Workbench Holdfast with Leather Pad Ductile Cast Iron
Holdfasts have been used by for centuries by carpenters, joiners and cabinetmakers to secure boards to the top and sides of workbenches, allowing for hands-free planing, carving, drilling, sawing, shaping, and more. Holdfasts are ideal for projects requiring frequent repositioning.
To utilize them, simply drill 3/4" holes in your workbench, insert the holdfast, and strike the center of the head with a mallet. This causes the shaft to wedge tightly against the sides of the hole to secure your work. To release, tap the backside of the clamp. Our holdfasts come uncoated, and the shafts left rough to enhance grip within the hole. For optimal performance, it's recommended to use holdfasts on benches from 2” to 4” in thickness. These holdfasts will securely grip boards up to 4" thick. They are best used in pairs. We supply a leather pad with each holdfast. These pads will need to be glued to the holdfast with contact cement.
These holdfasts are made from unbreakable ductile cast iron. While there are complaints about cast holdfasts break upon impact, our rigorous testing involved attempts to break them with a 4-pound sledgehammer, all of which were unsuccessful.
