Clifton 600 Flat Sole Spokeshave 2-1/8" Wide O1 Cryo Blade, 9-3/4" Long
Clifton Spokeshaves are among the most robust and beautiful spokeshaves available today. Made from virtually unbreakable spheroidal graphite iron, they are machined and highly polished to create a tool that is aesthetically pleasing, comfortable to use, easy to adjust, and performs exceptionally well. They can be set to take thick shaping cuts or delicate finishing shavings. The blades, measuring 2-1/8" wide, are made from cryogenically treated O1 steel, hardened to 60-62 Rockwell C, and lapped to 0.125" thick. These blades hold a superior edge while remaining easy to sharpen. The blades are ground to 30 degrees and will require final honing before use. The blade is seated against a milled bed set at 45 degrees and adjusted via a thumbscrew blade adjuster, allowing for chatter-free cuts and fine depth-of-cut adjustments. The blade can be fully retracted into the body when not in use to protect the edge.
These spokeshaves are versatile, working equally well during push or pull strokes, and are ideal for shaping and refining convex and concave curves. The flat-sole spokeshave is particularly easy to use and versatile, making it perfect for shaping and smoothing inside and outside curves, chair spindles, legs, tool handles, and more. Its large 1-1/8” wide sole provides good stability on workpieces, helping to create fair, smooth curves and consistent chamfers.
