Workbench Plane Stop 2” Square Head with Toothed, Safe and V-Groove Sides, 3/4” x 2-3/8” Long Brass Post
A planing stop is a useful workbench work holding appliance. It can secure boards to a workbench for planing and other operations. Plane stops can be found in workbench drawings as far back as Roman times. This version is loosely patterned after the Miller Falls #56 Bench Hook. The head is 2” square and a full 1/4” thick. The head has one toothed side with a 25-degree bevel to securely bite into your work, two safe, non-marring edges and a V-groove side to hold stock on edge. The head is hardened tool steel. The head is attached to a 2-3/8” long x 3/4” diameter brass post that will fit in any dog hole. The post has a tension spring that will hold settings and allow easy adjustment. Once installed, it can be easily rotated between sides or removed. The stop can be raised a full 3/4” above the surface to work on thicker stock. This stop will work in benchtops as thin as 3/4”. It is easy to install as all that is required is drilling a 3/4” dog hole. To prevent rotation when planning wider stock, a doe’s foot is recommended. These stops come unassembled. To assemble, secure the post in a vise and attach the head with the included screw. Fully tighten the screw to prevent rotation. Thread locker is recommended.
