This small, economical router plane is an essential addition to any woodworker’s toolkit. It excels at cleaning up small tenon cheeks, cutting hinge mortises, refining the bottom of dados, working on small inlays, and more.

The base is made from stress-relieved ductile cast iron, and the sole is precision-machined to within 0.001" over its entire length. It features a smooth, baked-on finish for durability.

Weighing just 10 ounces, this router plane is lightweight yet sturdy. The blade is easily adjustable and locks securely in place via an adjustment knob. When not in use, the blade retracts into the base for protection. The included depth stop allows for repeatable depth mortises.

The blade is made from hardened and tempered tool steel (55-60 Rockwell C). It is 1/4" wide and ground at a 25-degree angle. While the blade comes sharp, a final honing is recommended for optimal performance.

Specifications:
  • Size: 4-1/8" wide x 2-1/4" deep x 1-1/8” high
  • Maximum Depth of Cut: 1"

    Works great with minor fettling
I have had one of these for a couple of years now and, shortly after I got it the cutter shank started slipping during use. I thought about it for a second or three, grabbed a .177 caliber copper plated steel BB and put it in the threaded hole for the brass setscrew used to tighten it against the cutter's shank. That worked great except if I removed the cutter the BB fell out. I solved that with a leftover length of ceramic magnet left over from my days as the Guitar Doctor in San Francisco. It works great and hasn't slipped since.

Good, but could be better with a little modification.
For $20 you can't find anything conpairable. My only issue is with the screw that hold the blade. It hold the blade at the angle, and the corner edge of the blade cuts into the screw and chews the point of the screw up. I took some HHS bar stock (4.5mm) and using a dremel cutting wheel, cut a 45 degree notch in the end. I them cut it about 3/16 to 1/4 inch from the notch making a small insert that drops into the screw hole. The 45 notch fits perfectly against the blade and the screw has a flat surface to tighten against and holds the blade fimly in place. A little honing and it was cutting perfect. This modification would be a great addition from the factory, but them it would raise the cost of production.

    pleasantly surprised
sharp right out of the box, you could easily spend 4 times as much and not get anything better

    Small Router Plane
Bought this to try out the new planes. I already have a Veritas small router plane and this one is just as good and for significantly less money. Recommended.
