This low-angle rabbet block plane is modeled after the classic Sargent No. 507, produced from 1919 to 1947 and considered one of the most functional specialty block planes, as it can function both as a rabbet plane and a standard block plane. The open arches on both sides and full-width blade allow the plane to reach into corners for cutting and refining rabbets or trimming tenons. It can also perform all the tasks of a standard low-angle block plane, including chamfering edges, fitting joinery, adjusting doors and drawers, smoothing small surfaces, removing mill marks, shaping small components, and trimming end grain.

The mouth is not adjustable. The one-piece casting and 1/8" thick blade virtually eliminate chatter.

The body is made from ductile cast iron, and the sole and sides are precision-lapped flat along the plane’s full length. The sole is lapped flat to within 0.002". The front knob, lever cap, and depth-adjuster knob are all solid brass. The blade is made from O1 tool steel and is a full 1/8" thick. The blade will need final honing for optimal performance. Measuring 6-1/2" long by 1-11/16" wide and weighing 1 pound 12 ounces, this plane offers an ideal balance of size and mass for a wide range of joinery and shaping tasks.
