Taytools Mini Squirrel Block Plane

This is a faithful modern remake of the classic Stanley No. 101 thumb plane, originally produced from 1877 to 1962. Designed for one-handed use, this compact plane excels at fine trimming, chamfering, and detail work where larger planes feel clumsy or heavy-handed.

Its low profile and curved sides nest naturally between the thumb and fingers, with an index-finger depression formed into the front of the body for precise control. The blade is adjusted manually and bedded at 45°. Simple in form and purpose, the No. 101 remains one of the most intuitive tools for working end grain, edges, and small surfaces—proof that good design never goes out of date.

The body is made from ductile cast iron and finished with a durable, baked-on powder coat. The high-carbon steel blade is hardened to an HRC of 59 and will require sharpening and final honing for optimal performance.
