This is a set of spokeshaves that includes both a concave and convex bottom.

The Concave Bottom Spokeshave is a better and more efficient choice than a flat-bottom spokeshave for creating consistent outside curves on pieces such as dowels or chair spindles. Using this tool, you can quickly shape square timber into a perfectly round rod. The curved handles provide a steady grip with excellent control, allowing the spokeshave to be pushed or pulled for different cutting techniques.

The blade measures 2 inches wide by 2 inches long and 0.080 inches thick, with an arc ground to a 1-1/2 inch radius. The sole also has a similar 1-1/2 inch radius. The blade depth is adjustable via a single set screw. The blade will require final honing before use.

The Convex Bottom Spokeshave is ideal for scooping and smoothing hollow surfaces such as chair seats, spoons, or bowls. Like the concave version, it features curved handles that provide a steady grip and excellent control, allowing the tool to be pushed or pulled for different cutting approaches.

The blade measures 2 inches wide by 2-1/4 inches long and 0.080 inches thick, with an arc ground to a 1-3/8 inch radius. The sole has a 1-7/8 inch radius. The blade and sole are intentionally ground to different radii, allowing for more controlled cutting. The blade depth is adjustable via a single set screw. As with the concave version, the blade will require final honing before use.

Both spokeshaves are 9-1/2 inches long and made from fine grey cast, stress-annealed iron with a baked-on powder coat finish.

    Great value
How can you go wrong for two spokeshaves for less than $30 bucks? Do they work? Yes quite well when adjusted correctly. That's the rub. The blade comes sharp and shaped appropriately. The blade is held in place by a chip breaker and a single screw. There is no other moving parts. A little tricky to get just the right amount of exposure for the blade and position the chip breaker all at the same time. Trying to manage three pieces with one hand and the other to tighten the screw is a bit challenging. The first time I was adjusting the blade, holding the body, blade and chip breaker in my left hand, I cut my pinky because it was the only digit I had that was available to keep the blade from sliding out too far. Otherwise, it works quite well. Going to have to figure out a better way to adjust the blade.
