Aluminum keeps the price down, but it definitely won’t have the dent resistance or long‑term rigidity of steel.aluminum is great for something that isn’t seeing daily abuse. If the fence stays square, the adjustments hold, and the cut quality is consistent, a slightly softer aluminum body isn’t a deal‑breaker. Most hobbyists and even plenty of pros run aluminum fences or tables on benchtop jointers without issues as long as they avoid dropping them or overtightening hardware.

I checked a panel with the anodized straight edge and the edge was flat along the whole board. The grip is comfortable for layout.
