Modeled after the vintage Stanley #71, this router plane is ideal for refining dados, rabbets, and tenons, as well as cutting shallow mortises for hardware, inlays, or any task requiring precise depth control.

The adjustable fence mounts to either side of the plane and guides both straight and contoured work. A micro-adjust depth stop lock provides precise control over your depth of cut.

The plane’s body is cast from seasoned ductile iron, housing a 3/8" square HSS blade hardened to 55–60 HRC with a 25° ground bevel. It features a maximum cutting depth of 1". Elegant brass hardware accents the depth control, blade lock stop, depth stop, and fence knobs. The 1-5/8" diameter by 2-1/4" tall hardwood handles sit low to the body for an ergonomic, precise grip.

Purchased to fix a small issue that only this tool could fix
I had to fix a small mistake I had made on a piece of furniture I was making and decided that I needed a large router plane. I already had the small router from Lie-Neilsen and didn’t want to spend that comparable amount on their large plane. I saw this online and it looked comparable. Here’s the good part, the tool is of the same quality as a L-N once I sharpened and polished the blade, which you still have to do for a L-N as well, yet at much less than 1/2 the price. Let’s face it, it took 30+ years until I decided I needed this plane and mostly because what I was using it for was definitely quicker and safer than using a power router. Also good service as they replaced the brass collar and set screw which were a bit out of alignment. I do recommend this tool.

    # 71 full size router plane review
Just recieved this Taytools #71 router plane. Beyond happy with my purchase. The quality was beyond my expectations across the board! The tool is very well made and feels solid when gripped. Ran a metal file on all the edges but I’d do that to even my Veritas and lie Nielsen planes. The planes machining did not leave any burrs or unfinished surfaces. Bought this on sale for $72.00… can’t beat it!
