As with all teardrop cutters, its versatile shape allows the tool to function as a round, half-round, or square scraper, suitable for use on both internal and external surfaces of bowls, platters, and hollow forms. The straight edge is ideal for external curves, while the rounded edges excel on internal contours, supporting both traditional scraping and shear scraping techniques. A high-speed steel version is also available.

Maintain optimal performance and longevity by lightly and regularly sharpening around the cutter’s profile using a diamond file or honing stone. For profile reshaping, use the 472 cutter holder with the Robert Sorby ProEdge system or a suitable grinding wheel.
