#71 Full SIze Router Plane, Closed Throat, 3/8” Square Cutter Taytools 777077
This router plane is modeled after the vintage Stanley No. 71 which was in production from 1884 until 1974. It is the perfect tool for refining dados, rabbets and tenons, and for cutting shallow mortises for hardware, inlays or any task requiring precise depth control.
The body of this plane is made from nearly indestructible, seasoned, ductile cast iron. The closed throat design provides optimal support in front of the blade, and while working along the edge of workpieces when refining rabbets and tenons. The plane has good mass at 2 lbs 4 oz for powering through cuts. The base has been lapped flat to within +/- .001 inch (one thousandth of an inch).
The 3/8” square cutter is made from hardened tool steel and hardened to HRC 55-60 and will not rotate in use. The cutter can be turned 180 degrees to face the back of the plane to allow work in tight spaces. The blade is square to prevent rotation in use. The micro adjust depth control allows a precise depth of cut. Maximum depth of cut is 1” with depth stop removed. The cutter requires honing before use.
The removeable fence can be placed on either side of the blade and can be used on straight or curved pieces.
Fine thread depth control, blade lock and depth stop hardware are all solid brass.
The 1-5/8” diameter by 2” tall Sapele handles provide lower center of gravity control.
