Details
Pinie European-style hand planes offer a simple, effective alternative to modern metal-bodied planes. These time-tested traditional designs are crafted using modern manufacturing techniques, resulting in a tool that delivers a noticeably smoother planing experience—thanks to their lightweight construction and the reduced friction of the wooden sole against the work surface.
Pinie Scrub Planes are designed for the initial processing of rough material prior to using a Bench, Smoothing, Jack, or Jointer Plane. The convex cutting edge of the iron slices through and removes wood aggressively when using cross grain or diagonal strokes. It is also useful for texturing and distressing wood surfaces. This scrub plane has a horn-shaped handle in place of a "knob", which allows for more balanced pressure to be applied across the length of the plane.

The CLASSIC body is crafted from European beech with a hornbeam sole, offering increased wear resistance and smoother gliding. It features a wedge-style blade adjustment that can be easily tuned with a few gentle taps of a mallet - tap the iron for a deeper cut, on the back of the plane body to retract, and on the top of the wedge to lock in your setting. This simple method is still used around the world and remains the preferred choice for many craftsmen over a mechanical adjuster. View instructions for more details.
The bed angle is 45°, and by reversing the blade, the angle increases to 75°— a useful technique when working with extremely hard woods. Primary bevel is pre-sharpened at a 28° bevel. The blade will require initial flattening of the back and honing before use. This plane does not include a chipbreaker.
Blade Options:
- PROFI blades are made of durable alloy tool steel and ALL surfaces are finely ground to a roughness average (Ra) of 0.4 µm. Hardened and tempered to 60 HRC. Oiled and hermetically sealed in a foil to create a barrier against rust.
- STANDARD blades are made of carbon tool steel and ALL surfaces are finely ground to a roughness average (Ra) of 0.4 µm. Hardened and tempered to 58 HRC. A layer of transparent paint is used to protect against corrosion.
- EKO blades are made of carbon tool steel and all functional surfaces are finely ground to a roughness average (Ra) of 0.4 µm. Hardened and tempered to 58 HRC. A layer of transparent paint is used to protect against corrosion.

Nice scrub plain
I received a good stack of rough-sawn cherry and white oak boards. I prefer to use hand tools, and I needed a scrub plane. The price was right, and I had the Pine jack plane. Taylor Tool, as usual, shipped the plane quickly. The knob and handhold were both rough to the touch when I unboxed the plane. A little touch-up with 150 and 220 sandpaper, followed by some paste wax, made the plane nice to handle. The iron was in good shape, and I got it flat and polished in about 15 minutes. It sharpened to a keen edge quickly. I took it for a test drive on a 6/4 white oak board. It took about a dozen passes to dial in the chips I wanted. Then, about 10 minutes to get the 20 x 12 piece reasonably flat. The Pinie Jack took care of the scallops. If you are considering getting a scrub plane this plane is a good choice.

Great Plane!
I purchased this Pinie Scrub Plane and am very pleased with how well it works. It took a little while to flatten the back of the blade and then sharpen it but once done it removes wood nearly effortlessly. The wooden sole really helps make the planning friction free and the blade is nice and thick.

It works well
This plane works beautifully. And it’s a good thick blade and it is economically perfect.
