These mortise chisels are made by Narex of the Czech Republic and are of exceptional quality. The blades are made from fine-grained, nicely tempered chrome-manganese steel and hardened to 59 HRc. The blades take and hold an excellent edge. The blades are precision ground. The blades are ground at a 25 degree bevel. The blade width tapers .030" from tip to shoulder for sidewall clearance. The blade thickness tapers from 3/8" at the tip to 1/2" at the shoulder. Handles are stained Beech and have 2 steel ferrules to withstand heavy plows from a mallet. The blades have a well-seated heavy steel tang.

    Great Chisels
    I just bought this set to start my journey into hand made furniture. I've been making furniture using power tools for almost 40 years. I thought it's time to try something different. So I signed up for a multi week class and got to work. After the first week I decided that I should buy my own tools and use them in the class to get a better feel for things. These chisels required a little flattening and sharpening out of the box. I understand that is normal. I am new to using chisels to make mortises so keep that in mind. I compare them to what the school provided, Robert Sorby mortising chisels. After sharpening and honing both chisels, I have to say they both work great, however I prefered the feel of the Narex wooden handle vs the plastic handle on the RS chisels. I also think that the Narex chisels stayed sharper longer. Hopefully this is helpful to someone. The price of the Narex chisels is great compared to other name brand suppliers.

    Love these chisels
    Taylor tools sells professional tools at a affordable price. I was excited to get these chisels to try them out. My hands did not get as tire. They are well balanced and of course very sharp. They are very well made.
