This 3-piece set of Oire Nomi Japanese chisels is the perfect addition to any fine woodworker’s tool cabinet. These chisels have shorter, thicker blades and slimmer handles than Western chisels, allowing for more precise control—ideal for intricate joinery and detailed work.

This set includes three sizes: 9mm (3/8"), 15mm (5/8") and 24mm (15/16").

Handle diameters range from 21.21mm (.835") to 123.5mm (.925").

Bevel ground to 25 degrees.

Each chisel features a dual-layer laminated blade, combining a super-hard white paper steel cutting edge with a softer iron backing.

The white paper steel sharpens to a keen, durable edge, but on its own, it can be brittle and prone to chipping. To counter this, the hard white steel is laminated to a softer iron backing, which provides flexibility, compensating for the white steel’s brittleness and helps prevent chipping. This combination not only strengthens the blade but also makes sharpening easier and faster, as there is very little hard white steel to remove and the softer iron sharpens more readily.

The backs of the chisels have a concave grind that reduces surface contact with the sharpening stone, making flattening the backs quick and easy.

Blades taper slightly from the tip to the heel, approximately 0.4 mm (0.015"), to prevent the chisel from binding during deep chisel work.

The durable red handles feature steel hoops to prevent splitting when struck with a hammer.

Note: While the chisels do come sharp, the bevels will need to be honed and the backs flattened and honed for optimal performance. The hoops will also need to be properly set before use. Once set, these chisels can be used with a steel hammer. Sharpening and hoop-setting instructions are included.

I will say I expected they would need a lot of lapping and sharpening. I was correct. They took a LOT of work , however I was able to hone them to razor sharp. So for the price if you know how to hone/ sharpen chisels they are a good value.
