These small brass Japanese clamps, or Hatagane, are prized for their ability to apply gentle, precise pressure to clamp small, delicate workpieces. Hatagane clamps combine quick, parallel jaw closure with adjustable clamping force, making them ideal for fine woodworking, box making, repair jobs, model building, and intricate joinery where larger clamps would get in the way or be cumbersome. They excel at pulling joints tight without twisting or distorting the workpiece.

The softer brass construction prevents damage to delicate woods, while the parallel jaw design provides good alignment and reference compared to many Western clamps. Brass is non-corrosive and will not react with glues.

Bar cross-sections: 4mm square (120-180mm sizes), 5mm square (240-300mm sizes)

Overall size: 120 mm (5-1/4"), jaw opening: 98 mm (3-7/8")

    Follow-Up to My Previous Review
Here's a follow-up to my previous review of these clamps. Still a great clamp, still love them and am actively using them right now.I was looking at a very similar clamp from another seller. Almost the same, except the tightening fixture is just a simple knob, no cross-bar like these clamps. This gave me an idea, a way to redesign the clamp slightly so that it will lie flat when positioned upright. For the sliding head that is fixed stationary to the bar, make the screw longer and have it threaded into the TOP of the sliding head, so it doesn't interfere with the positioning. The screw would have to be the knob type, to avoid interfering with the workpiece.

    Great Little Hobby Clamps
These are very nice little hobby clamps. They are beautifully-made and easy to use. The only downside for me is they don't sit flat on the bench when placed upright, due to the screw on the bottom of the slider. I haven't done it yet, but I suppose you could drill a 1 1/4" hole in a piece of plywood to make a recess for the screw handle, or just hang it off the side of the bench. Overall, a wonderful product. Good packaging and shipping, too.
