Head slips on the blade, fails to lock down easily.
This double square has a blade that is easy to read, even the smallest markings. The handle does not slide inside the head as smoothly as the larger 6" Benchmark precision combination square. However, it is acceptable. The reason I gave this double square only 3 stars is because the thumb nut on the head is not smooth acting, and it is difficult to tighten it down enough such that the blade is secure and does not slip. I think the issue with the locking mechanism may be that the head casting is not machined smooth where the thumb nut meets the casting surface. The bottom of the thumb nut is also not machined smooth. I could work on the head parts with some diamond files and Cubitron II sandpaper to improve the smoothness of the locking mechanism, but I was hoping for a better machined tool. When I received this square, the corners of the head were all quite sharp. It was a little difficult to hold this square. I eased all of the head edges using 320 grit sandpaper and a flat reference surface, and now it is far more comfortable to hold. The last thing that surprised me is the small size of this double square. I have XL size hands, and this tool is almost too small for me to use because it is hard to hold onto. This is not a complaint about the tool, as I should have anticipated this issue when I purchased. If I buy another double square, I want the head to be at least one inch longer and at least 3/8 inch wider. I also prefer a slightly larger diameter thumb nut. On the plus side, this small double square fits nicely into a shop apron pocket.

    Right-sized, great value
I've been living with my classic 12" combo square for decades, and finally broke down and bought this nicely sized 6" combo square, which does 95% of what the 12" combo does, but does it so much more easily and quickly. I love how I can use both 90-deg sides of the slider rather than having to flip it over.

Perfect for my new welding hobby
This appears to be a quality square. I chose this over a simple triangle tool because it will allow me to measure and accurately cut metal.
