Moxon vises have been around for nearly 400 years, first illustrated by Joseph Moxon in his 17th-century book The Art of Joinery. This mid-size version is a compact, portable, and budget-friendly take on the classic full-size Moxon vise.

Ideal for woodworkers who don’t need—or don’t have room to store—a full-size unit. Despite its smaller size, it offers outstanding workholding for joinery (especially dovetailing), shaping, and carving tasks.

It raises your workpiece 3" for a more comfortable and ergonomic working height and can be easily clamped to almost any work surface. When not in use, it stores easily on a shelf or can be hung on the wall.

Most modern Moxon vises have threaded rods attached to the rear jaw, secured in place with four nuts—two of which are mortised into the rear jaw and sit flush with its front surface. This design leaves both rods protruding from the front jaw, often interfering with the user.

Our improved Mid-Size Moxon Vise Hardware Kit solves this problem by embedding threads in the rear jaw using an innovative nut bracket. This allows both rods to pass through the back jaw and spin freely to open and close the front jaw—leaving the area in front of the vise completely unobstructed. Additionally, the threaded rods rotate in steel bushings embedded in the rear jaw, reducing friction for smoother operation.

This Moxon vise features a 1” thick L-Shaped rear jaw and a 1" thick front jaw that rides on sturdy 1/2"-13 threaded rods. The front jaw is secured to your workpiece using heavy-duty 3" cast wing nuts.

Overall dimensions are 23" wide by 3" tall by 4-1/2” wide. The front jaw extends 1/4" farther than the rear jaw to make alignment with the edge of your worksurface easier.

The vise mounts securely to nearly any bench or table using two F-style clamps (not included). The maximum jaw opening is 4" with the 8" threaded rods and 6" with the 10" rods. The spacing between the rods is 11-1/2".
