A card scraper is one of the simplest yet most versatile tools in the woodshop. It consists of a thin, flexible piece of steel that, when properly prepared, can handle a wide range of tasks—everything from removing paint to shaping wood and refining finishes. A cabinet scraper can create an exceptionally fine finish on wood regardless of grain direction or figure.

These scrapers come in various thicknesses, from 0.015" to 0.042". The two thinnest scrapers, with superior flexibility, are perfect for finer work or refining a finish and can even be used with one hand. The thicker scrapers are ideal for standard to heavy stock removal, with the 0.040" scraper being particularly well-suited for shaping wood or paint removal. With this range of thicknesses, you’ll always have the right scraper onm hand for each step of your woodworking project.

Made from 1095 spring steel, they are tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 48-51, providing the right balance between flexibility and durability. Known for its exceptional edge retention, 1095 spring steel outperforms many other materials used for scrapers. This hardness allows easy creation of hooks, which can be done using any hardened steel or carbide burnisher—though the Accu-Burr burnisher is preferred for its ability to create consistent hooks on both edges simultaneously. The long edges are stamped with a slight burr, requiring only light filing and honing before turning the hook, Both faces are polished and blued for corrosion resistance, ensuring the tool will be long-lasting.
