In the small village of Bystrice in the Czech Republic, the Narex factory has been making world-class edge tools for over 105 years. Founded in 1919 by Mr. Vaclav Richter, a local blacksmith, Narex is renowned for producing high-quality, reasonably priced edge tools. Despite modern advancements, Narex retains many traditional manufacturing methods, including old-world drop-forging techniques that enhance the steel's strength and durability.

To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Narex introduced the Richter Extra premium bench chisels, named after their founder, and recently launched a new line of Richter Extra mortise chisels, which rival any premium mortise chisel on the market today.

BLADES:
Richter Extra mortise chisel blades are made from high-quality Chrome Vanadium (Cr-V) steel as the Richter bench chisels using traditional drop-forging methods. They are hardened, cryogenically treated, and tempered to a hardness of 62 HRc, with fine-grinding and polishing ensuring a mirror-like surface. The blade sides are ground with parallel sides that taper in thickness to keep them straight in the cut. The front bevel is ground at 25 degrees, but a higher secondary bevel of 30 to 35 degrees is advisable, especially when working with harder woods.

CRYOGENIC TREATMENT:
This process involves cooling the steel to -190°C (-310°F) using liquid nitrogen, significantly increasing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance at the molecular level.

HANDLES:
Handles are made from domestically harvested European Ash, known for its strength and attractive grain. The ergonomic handles are sanded and hand-finished with friction shellac for protection, comfort and control. Double solid stainless-steel ferrules and a leather washer prevent splitting. The top ferrule is pinned to prevent it from ever falling off.

LIFETIME GUARANTEE:
Richter Extra mortise chisels come with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects in material, design, or construction, with free replacement or repair provided. This guarantee is void if the products are damaged due to carelessness, neglect, or inappropriate use.
