HORSE BUTT LEATHER STROP

For more than a century, the best razor strops were made from tough horse butt leather. Horse butt leather is some of the hardest, toughest and most durable leather you can buy. The natural silicates found in bare leather are what abrade and polish steel. Horse butt has a higher silicate concentration than most any other leather making it the perfect stropping material. This horse butt strop will put a scary, wicked sharp edge on razors, knives, carving chisels and woodworking tools. This strop has two distinct sides, a smooth hair side and a slightly rougher flesh side. The rough flesh side is perfect for holding polishing compound and useful for initial stropping. The smooth hair side is best used plain for the final strop. These have been custom die cut to our specifications with the overall size being 12 inches x 3 inches. The material is 3/32 to 9/64 inch thick and can taper slightly in thickness from one end to the other. The leather is not dyed to hide imperfections, so coloration will vary from piece to piece.

GREEN CHROMIUM OXIDE MICRO FINE POLISHING COMPOUND

This Micro Fine Chromium Oxide polishing compound is specially designed for use with leather strops to put a Scary Sharp™, polished, mirror-edge on knives, carving chisels and woodworking tools. Rather than removing metal, stropping with chromium oxide compound, polishes and refines the cutting edge. The waxy consistency allows it to adhere well to any substrate without powdering. Simply rub the bar evenly on the surface like a crayon. A little goes a very long way, so this small bar will last for a very long time. After applying compound to a strop, polish your knives and blades to a mirror, razor sharp finish. To achieve the best possible edge, finish honing by polishing your edge on raw leather. This compound is micro fine with a 0.5 micron particle size and will produce an edge equivalent to 60,000 grit. Chromium Oxide (Cr2O3) is a superfine, polycrystalline abrasive, it is the mineral that gives green polishing compound its color.
