Accu-Burr™ Ground Edge Card Scrapers 2-1/2" x 6" x .025" Blued Spring Steel (1 Scraper, 1 Magnet) (DCE)
A card scraper is arguably one of the simplest tools, yet it is also one of the most versatile. A scraper consists of nothing more than a thin piece of flexible steel. However, when properly prepared, it can perform a multitude of tasks, including removing paint, shaping wood, refining finishes, and everything in between. These Accu-Burr card scrapers, made in the USA by Union Manufacturing, are among the finest available.
They are machined from 1095 spring steel, hardened, and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 48 to 51. This hardness level is perfect for allowing the tool to flex and facilitating the easy formation and durability of hooks. Hooks can be formed using any hardened steel or carbide burnisher, but our preference is to use an Accu-Burr burnisher, which quickly and consistently creates hooks on both edges simultaneously. Both long edges are surface-ground to 90 degrees, and both faces are polished, eliminating the need for edge preparation before creating a hook. Surface-ground edges and polished faces allow these scrapers to be used without a hook for very fine scraping. Both flat faces are blued for corrosion resistance.
The overall size is 2-1/2’ x 6”, with a thickness of .025”, providing excellent flexibility, control, and comfort for the thumbs. Each scraper comes with a .050” thick flexible magnet attached to the back, acting as a heat sink to dissipate heat during heavy and prolonged scraping sessions. The tool is packed in a paper coin envelope that protects its delicate edges when stored in a drawer or cabinet.
