Robert Sorby Long Standard Spindle Gouges (841H)
Aside from the extra long blade, these tools are identical to the standard length spindle gouges. The increased length of the blades allow a farther reach into work pieces. These are detailing tools used on between-center work, where the grain is running parallel to the lathe bed. Spindle gouges are used to create coves, beads and other profiles on goblets, vases, bed posts, candle sticks and other spindle projects. Made from high speed steel and then properly hardened and tempered. It will keep a sharpened edge about six times longer than carbon steel and resist "blued" softening from overheating during grinding or from heavy turning. It comes with hard White Ash handle and brass ferrule.
