Les Outils Cullen 35A Deluxe Double Pin Mortising Cutting Gauge
Les Outils Cullen marking, slitting and mortising gauges are made in limited runs by a small shop in Quebec, Canada. The owner personally makes each gauge to the highest possible standards and tests every gauge before sending out. Many regard the Les Outils Cullen gauges as the best available anywhere. The fit and finish on these gauges is superb. These gauges are made from South American Bloodwood, an extremely hard, tight-grained and stable hardwood that takes a lustrous finish. These gauges feature large brass wear plates on the faces, stems with accurate graduations marks in inches (0-5") and a large 3/4" knurled solid brass thumb screw that securely locks the head square on the stem without denting. The locking screw has unique internal spring-loaded mechanism that keeps light and constant friction on the stem during adjustments to prevent inadvertent movement.
The adjustable mortising gauge comes with two hardened radius pins to mark both sides of mortises in a single pass. The radius pins will score wood fibers as opposed to the scratching and tearing done by traditional mortise gauges. Pin width is adjusted with a brass slide with a separate locking screw. Pin width can be adjusted down to 1/32 of an inch. The pins come sharp and will leave distinct and deep marks with minimal pressure.
