Kunz #53 Straight Blade Adjustable Mouth Spokeshave 9-1/2" Overall Length

This  #53 adjustable mouth spokeshave is made by Kunz Tools of Germany and is based on the Stanley #53 model with an adjustable mouth. This allows you to close up the throat, enabling finer shavings, or you can open up the mouth, to facilitate heavier shavings. 

These tools are treasured by spoon carvers and green woodworkers, cabinetmakers and coachbuilders, coopers and furniture makers.

Body is made from fine grey-cast stress-annealed iron and coated with Kunz’s distinctive green epoxy resin. This spokeshaves is based on the Stanley and Record models 15.

The irons are made of high carbon German steel and hardened to 62 Rockwell C. The blades have been machined sharpened to 25 degrees. Honing is recommended before use.
