Clifton #4 Smoothing Bench Plane, Bubinga Knob and Tote
This Clifton #4 Bench Plane is both a highly attractive and functional tool that aims to give an accurate and smooth finish. Ideal for the cabinet maker and discerning woodworker, both amateur and professional. This plane is ready to use right out of the box and will not need hours of flattening and fettling to make it fit for use (though many woodworkers will prefer to hone the cutting iron themselves.) This Clifton Bench Plane is made from the finest materials: the body and frog are made from accurately machined grey cast iron with their sides and sole fully ground. The knob and tote are carefully shaped, sanded and sealed Bubinga hardwood. The 0.120" thick (3mm) cutting iron is made from cryogenically treated 01 steel, hardened and tempered to 60-62 HRc. The cap iron or chip breaker has a single piece design to offer rigid clamping. The frog locating pins and screws are made from ground stainless steel and are polished. The lever cap is made from polished grey iron casting. Both the screws and adjusting wheel are made from polished brass. The Y Lever is a solid one piece brass casting. The adjusting lever and other components are made from polished stainless steel. Bed angle is 45 degrees. Sole precision ground to within the British Standard of 0.003" over the entire length. Overall length 9-1/2"; 2" wide iron; overall weight 4.8 pounds. Made by Thomas Flinn of Sheffield England, the last traditional saw and plane maker in the UK.
